TeachersPayTeachers.com Review

This is an article I wrote for my website: http://shapingyourself.com

As educators we are always looking for great resources to supplement our teaching. I want to share with you one of the best resources I have found. This resource is TeachersPayTeachers.com
TeachersPayTeachers.com is a very cool website where teachers sell their own personal lesson plans, activities, unit plans, projects and power points. Everything I have purchased from this site has been awesome because it is not the normal rhetoric or jargon you might be used to with educational resources. All of the stuff is applicable to your classroom and can be utilized.

Another great aspect of this website is the fact that everyone has to have at least one FREE resource. This is great because it allows you to preview a teacher’s work before you choose to purchase his or her products.

The last great aspect of this site is the fact that it allows you to make money. It does this in two ways. The first way is a more direct route. This would be selling your own products. The second way is through affiliate marketing. Once you sign up to the site you are given a specialized link to share with others. This link is attached to your account. If someone were to use the link and sign up for the site, you would receive a 5% payout for their total sales for the next two years. Don’t worry, this money does not come from your referred friend’s pocket, it is paid out by TeachersPayTeachers.com. Pretty sweet!

Like most things in life, nothing is completely good. There are a few draw backs to using this site. The first one is the fact that the revenue split highly favors the house. They take 40% of your digital sales (downloadable items) and 15% of your physical sales(tangible items you ship). To get around this you can become a “Premium Member” for $59.99. As a “Premium Member” the revenue split shifts in your favor. TeachersPayTeachers.com will then reduce their cut to 15% for your digital items and 10% for physical items.

If you plan on giving this site a serious go, purchasing the “Premiere Membership” makes sense. You will recoup the membership fees very quickly if you are dedicated to developing a great store. If you are uncertain about the idea of selling items and are unsure if you should purchase the “Premium Member,” I would suggest uploading a few products just to see what happens. If a lot of people are buying your stuff and feel it would be beneficial to purchase the “Premium Member” then go for it. If you find you do not enjoy making products or the purchases are few and far between, then you can just quit and you never spent a dime. Basically you have nothing to lose.

There is another route you could go. If you are web savvy you can create your own store. This cuts out the percentage to the house which is awesome, but you lose the prospective buyers that peruse the TeachersPayTeachers.com website. You also will have to market yourself which can be time consuming.

To rectify this problem I sell items both at TeachersPayTeachers.com and my personal store. I list the products in my store at a reduced price because there is no revenue split. I want to give buyers the best prices possible, so I refer them to my personal store in my TeachersPayTeachers.com profile. You can check out my personal store HERE.
